A collect-a-thon game is the type of game in which there are many different objects you have to collect in the course of your adventure. Is it a game that can deliver on what was intended? Well more on that in the review. Anyway, Donkey Kong was a game that I played in my childhood. I found the Rareware logo on it appealing since I was a Banjo-Kazooie fan and I wanted to play more games of that nature. Did I like it as a child, well yes since it was everything I wanted, another game similar to Banjo. Revisiting it years later does it hold up? And can others enjoy it as well? Well that will be answered in the review as it explores one of Rare’s last masterpieces on a Nintendo console. Graphics-10/10 The graphics are amazing for an N64 game. Sure the graphics of games on the system don’t look bad, however by today’s standards you can tell that they have aged. Donkey Kong 64 however doesn’t have the same feeling. The graphics are more cartoonish, which to me can hold up better as time goes on than games with more realistic looking graphics. So what makes these graphics so great? Well for a variety of reasons. The models of each characters are smooth, the environments are bright and colorful, and fitting of what the game is trying to convey. They put a lot of detail into each object. Another aspect of the graphics that I like to touch on are the animations. They are well done and fun to look at. The idle animations especially, if you don’t do anything the character you are playing as do random things. Lanky for instance juggles a bunch of oranges. So overall the graphics are pleasant to look at, are smooth and highly detailed. Quite possible the best looking N64 game I have seen. Sound-10/10 From listening to the intro music, you know that the game is going to have a neat soundtrack. I cannot do a review of this specific game and not mention the DK rap. To me it’s a memorable song that’s wacky and extremely fun to listen to. It’s a song I find myself singing even to this day. In terms of how the music sounds, each piece of music sounds great. I love how the songs fit with the moment of what is going on. If you’re in Cranky’s Lab, a creepy/ominous tune plays, however when you’re in Angry Aztec expect a desert sounding track. Also one thing I’d like to add is that a number of tracks in the OST offer a lot of monkey sounds, which is a nice touch considering the game features a group of monkeys/gorillas, so the sounds fit with the game completely and helps to convey better on just what the game is. Depth- 10/10 Quite possibly one of the largest games I have played. To 100% it is very time-consuming. There are 201 golden bananas, 10 battle crowns, 20 banana fairies, 40 Banana Medals(which you need to collect 75 little bananas to get even one), 8 Boss Keys, a Nintendo Coin, and Rareware Coin. Yep. You read that list right. This game is pretty intense with the amount of collectables that you can get. These collectables are what makes this game so massive. It’s a game that you can spend weeks or months, heck even longer if you are having trouble with certain challenges (more on that in the difficulty section). The appeal of this game is in its depth and it is able to satisfy those who love to collect as much as possible in a game. Story-5/10 King K. Rool wants to blow up DK Isles. The weapon he planned to use against it malfunctions, so of course he has to get it repaired. He ends up kidnapping all of Donkey Kong’s friends as well as taking his banana hoard. So it’s up to Donkey Kong to save his friends and all of his Bananas, all the while trying to help K.Lumsy, who was trapped by K.Rool, since K.Lumsy could help him get to the Blast-O-Matic weapon. So yeah. That’s the story in a nutshell. Is it good? Not really, it’s about what you’d expect from a game with Nintendo characters. However, this specific game (like all Nintendo related games) doesn’t need a good story. Its appeal is the massive amount that you can do in the game as well as the fun gameplay. Difficulty- 8/10 Here’s the deal. If you don’t plan on beating this game to 100% completion, you will have a relatively easy time with the game. I say relatively because there is one section in the game that can be extremely difficult. And that section involves playing the retro arcade game Donkey Kong twice to get the Nintendo Coin. This is an extremely difficult task because the game itself is very cheap and difficult, it is pretty much the bane of my existence whenever I feel the need to play this game. The coin is needed as well to even finish the game. Things get more difficult for those who want to complete this game to completion. As stated this game is intense in terms of how many items that you have to collect. It has so many different collectables that it will take forever to get them. Plus some of the tasks for each one can be in itself difficult. Lastly the final boss can be quite a challenge as well. Addictiveness-7/10 This is a game that you can just go back to so that you can enjoy the platforming fun. There aren’t branching paths, however the fun you get from playing the game is enough to want to replay it. The platforming is great, the game is charming, the worlds immersive. What prevents this from being a perfect ten however is the fact that it can be quite difficult. Because you need to do certain tasks to even beat the game, I feel as if that would turn off most people from actually wanting to replay it. Still even though there is a challenge it’s still an addicting game that I found myself spending hours on attempting to collect all there was to collect. Overall 8.3/10 This game is heaven for those who love collect-a-thon games. There is so much to explore and to collect. Even if fully completing a game is not your forte, you can still enjoy the game. Everything about it is lovely. It’s a game that can hold up today, and one that can be enjoyed by anyone. It's everything a game should be. It's charming, it's fun, has great environments, everything about it is amazing. It's a game that needs to be experienced to be appreciated so if you get the chance then you should check it out. Graphics 10 Sound 10 Addictive 7 Depth 10 Story 5 Difficulty 8
Donkey Kong 64 is, put simply, Banjo Kazooie with Donkey Kong, and his friends from the Donkey Kong Country games. However it isn't just a straight clone of Banjo Kazooie. There are many features that separate them, and show that Rare put a lot of effort into it. Features like being able to change characters, different weapons for each character, each character with their own strengths and weaknesses, etc.The idea is similar to about every other platformer, with some 'light' puzzles in to mix up the gameplay. Run around the various levels, jumping, swimming, and climbing where needed, to get your golden bananas back with K. Rool has stolen. And, of course, Rare show off their 3D engine, making the game somewhat more difficult than the old 2D 'run from left to right' games.

I wonder why Nintendo chose to remove it.. It's a shame; if this game crashed as frequently as Banjo-Tooie, I'd still love both of them, but neither are actually playable. While the video game industry is always moving forward to bigger and “better” things, there’s no denying the audience for revisiting or experiencing classics for the first time. Nintendo has tapped into nostalgia and created a new audience for classic games with the excellent NES Classic and SNES Classic. What about Nintendo 64 games? Nintendo currently doesn’t have any plans to create an N64 Classic, so unless you own a working N64, it’s hard to play games from the dawn of Nintendo’s 3D days. Sure, the Wii U has a selection of N64 games, but the Wii U has been dead for years. Download game android mortal kombat mod.
Related to emulatorsNintendo 64 IsoThe best N64 emulators
Acquiring a working N64 isn’t too hard, but finding the cartridges for reasonable prices? Not always so easy. Often the easiest method for playing N64 games is through emulators. Here are the best N64 emulators for PC and Android.
Project64 (Windows)
One of the most popular and easy-to-use N64 emulators, Project 64 also has the benefit of being open source. The dedicated community of Project64 enthusiasts consistently merge changes to GitHub, fixing bugs both small and large. Newer versions of Project64 have cleaned up the need for installing additional video or audio plugins for certain games. For instance, you no longer have to download the Glide64 video plugin separately when games fail to run smoothly with Project64’s legacy Jabo Direct3D plugin. Project 64 lets you play with USB controllers, features save states, and even lets you play with high-resolution textures. The main downside of Project 64 comes with audio, which can sometimes be inconsistent.
Development for non-Windows based versions of Project64 has picked up over the years. Project64 was even available on Google Play at one point, but it has since been removed. For now, if you’re on Windows and looking for an emulator with a clean interface that plays a large percentage of N64 games no problem, Project64 is a good option.
Mupen64Plus (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android)
Mupen64Plus isn’t as easy to use as Project64, but it does deliver a better audio experience. If you’re having trouble with certain games on Project64, we suggest giving Mupen64Plus a try. By default, Mupen64Plus doesn’t have a user interface. Instead, you boot up ROMs through the command line. That said, you can add a front-end user interface by downloading an additional plug-in such as M64Py, which is specifically designed for Mupen64Plus. Rhythm heaven fever iso download mega full.
Mupen64Plus has the added benefit of being compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Best app to download snapchats. This makes it the best option for Mac and Linux users and alternative option for PC users if Project64 isn’t performing as expected.
Mupen64Plus FZ (Android)
Though Mupen64Plus is available on Android, we wanted to call out Mupen64Plus FZ as well. This version of the emulator was specifically designed for mobile devices. It’s still somewhat of a hassle to setup, but once everything is ready to go, it offers the best N64 emulation on Android, no question. All of the plugins you could want to install are included and the front-end GUI comes with the download.
MegaN64 (Android)
MegaN64, a tweaked version of Mupen64+, is by far the most popular emulator on Android, with more than 900,000 user reviews and an average user rating of 4.6. That’s mighty impressive. What you get with MegaN64 is a good, sometimes great, N64 emulator without the hassle. Games must be installed onto a microSD card to play them. Games load almost instantly and most of them run without a hitch.
Free Download Game Nintendo 64 Player
It’s not as feature heavy as Mupen64Plus, but it will get the job done for those just looking to pick up and play some old classics. The major annoyance with MegaN64 are the ads, which pop up quite frequently in the menu. It’s hard to say for sure, but development appears to have ceased a few years back. Without support, MegaN64 may eventually become a mess. For now, though, it’s still a solid, easy option for N64 emulation on Android.
N64 Emulator GamesRetroArch (multi-platform)
RetroArch is a front-end GUI, not technically an emulator. However, you can download emulator cores to play games across a wide-range of platforms on a wide-range of platforms (PC, mobile, consoles). For N64 emulation, RetroArch uses a libretro core modeled after Mupen64Plus. However, RetroArch has a number of distinct differences such as overclocking and more customization features. In some respects, RetroArch’s N64 cores are like if Project64 and Mupen64Plus had a baby. RetroArch also has a really neat “paraLLEl” core that refines visuals whether they are being rendered in high-resolution or as they were on N64. If you use a ton of different emulators for multiple classic platforms, you may want to simplify things and try RetroArch. If you need help setting it up (it’s not super easy), there are a great number of YouTube videos and written guides available through a quick Google search.
Disclaimer: While downloading and sharing emulators is perfectly legal, downloading ROMs BIOS files is illegal, even if you own a physical copy of the game. This list is meant to be used as a reference. We do not advocate illegally downloading games.
